Vale John Wynn – Industry Legend and Former Association President

It is with great sadness that Caravan & Residential Parks Victoria has been informed of the passing of John Henry Wynn.

John was a highly respected figure within Victoria’s caravan park industry, serving as Association President from 1971 to 1973 during a period of significant growth for the sector. In recognition of his outstanding contribution and lifelong commitment to the industry, he was awarded Industry Legend status by the Association in 2009.

John, together with Janice and his family, built Wynndean Caravan Park into much more than a successful family business. Under his leadership, it became a place where generations of families created lasting memories and where community, hospitality and genuine care were at the heart of every visitor experience.

His legacy within the industry was proudly reflected at the 2025 CRPVic Gala Awards, when his son David, was honoured with the President’s Award. In a touching moment that celebrated the Wynn family’s enduring contribution to Victorian caravan parks, John proudly accepted the award on David’s behalf.

In the tribute shared by his family, they reflected on John’s deep appreciation for everyone who helped shape Wynndean’s story, from the post-war migrants who helped build the park to the generations of guests who returned year after year.

Former Association President and friend Steve Bartlett this morning reflected on John’s unwavering dedication to both the industry and the wider community, acknowledging his service with the CFA, his contribution to numerous tourism boards and his leadership and commitment to the Association through the Bellarine Division and tireless advocacy to government.

John’s values of integrity, service, community and generosity were evident in everything he did.

John’s legacy will continue through the many people he mentored, the industry he helped shape and the fourth generation of the Wynn family proudly continuing the Wynndean story.
