EPA Victoria officers have been inspecting caravan parks across the state to assess how well operators are managing risks associated with onsite wastewater systems. These inspections have identified a number of common issues, including:
Under Victoria’s General Environmental Duty, caravan park operators must take all reasonably practicable steps to minimise risks from onsite wastewater systems and ensure the correct regulatory permissions are in place.
Importantly, some caravan parks that surrendered EPA permissions in 2007 have been operating under an exemption which will expire on 30 June 2026.
Operators must now ensure they understand their compliance obligations ahead of that deadline.
